Welcome to Twin Lakes Elementary!

The Twin lakes project started with the passing of a bond in 2004.  The district hired Schrock/Devetter Architects to help design the school.  The school is designed as an energy efficient school and a green school.  It is a 2-story building that uses natural daylight to help light the rooms.  Twin Lakes opened in the fall of 2007.  Currently we have about 805 students.

A couple of interesting facts about the building:

  • Our floor design in the cafeteria is an aerial snapshot of the actual lakes called Twin Lakes.  The architects then put that snapshot to paper and produced a layout design for our floor in the cafeteria. The black part of the floor represents the aerial view of the Twin Lakes.
  • 75% of the construction waste was diverted to recycle centers.
  • 25% of the building came from recycled sources.
  • We have 42 solar tubes which lets in natural daylighting.
  • Natural daylighting is used in all classrooms by having huge windows and slanted ceilings.
  • Our building has a 50% reduction in energy use through ventilating systems, controls, equipment and efficiency.
  • We are a LEED Certified school.
  • Every classroom has a smart board which was produced through fundraisers.

We do many fun things at Twin Lakes, some of which include Fall Festival Parade, Veterans Day Celebration, "I Love to Read" month festivities, Otterfest (school carnival), Arts Night, Ollie Olympics and many more.  We are the "Home of the Otters"!  Stop in sometime and watch our morning news with Ollie the Otter in action!

Most recently, we have been named a Minnesota School of Excellence! This was only possible because of our great students, parents, staff, and community.
