ASD DSD
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Developmental Cognitive Delay (DCD)
The ASD/DCD special education programs at Twin Lakes are designed to serve students who are identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Developmental Cognitive Delay (DCD). Programming is based on individual needs of students as determined by the IEP. Services can range from a full inclusion model when appropriate (for students pursuing academic goals exclusively) to a functional skills model (for students pursuing remedial academic, life skills, and community skills). Components include highly structured, individualized programming; communication and language training; social skills training; utilization of natural environments for instruction; positive behavioral programming; and educationally based sensory activities as appropriate. Related services including speech language pathology, occupational/physical therapy and adaptive physical education also may be provided based on individual need.
